Adhering to the “Belt and Road Initiative”, and “The Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation”, MPF is dedicated to building a platform that promotes communication and cooperation for port and shipping ecosystem. Following the objectives of "Equality, Cooperation, Mutual Benefit and Win-Win", Maritime Silk Road Port International Cooperation Forum is considered as a professional forum of China Maritime Forum.
The background of the Forum was President Xi's state visits to Kazakhstan and Indonesia in September and October in 2013, when he proposed “The Silk Road Economic Belt” and “The 21st Century Maritime Silk Road”, also known as “the Belt and Road”. The proposal seeks regional cooperation at international scale, encourages the countries and regions along the Silk Road to achieve a win-win situation. After the successful holding of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation On May 14,2017 in Beijing, the Silk Road Spirit-"peaceful cooperation, openness and tolerance, mutual learning and mutual benefit" has gradually become the world's common knowledge.
